Thursday the seventeenth of April saw some fifty Club Members gather in Boroughbridge for the 15th Mauchline Ware Collectors Club Convention. On the Friday we visited York, beginning with an open topped bus ride. From there we made visits to Fairfax House, the Mansion House, the Railway Museum and York’s four antique centres. In the evening we were regaled with talks from half a dozen members.
On Saturday we enjoyed two most interesting lectures – one on Ferns and Fern Ware, in which our speaker, Jennifer Ide, identified some of the ferns used for decoration on Mauchline Ware as exotics. The second lecturer, Robin Lidster, related the development of the Yorkshire East Coast holiday resorts to the arrival of the railway, and with the aid of slides and lantern slides, made links between surviving photographs and some of the Mauchline Ware Transfers. In the afternoon various members put on displays of their collections.
The Antique Dealers Fair on Sunday morning rounded off the weekend. As always, dealer members had found some fascinating pieces for us, and the members’ stall provided more bargains.
